Liberals take legal action over MPP’s autism fight
SGM’s Frank Addario was quoted in the Globe and Mail today in connection with NDP MPP Shelly Martel’s effort to find out how much money the Liberal government spent in its legal battle with the parents of autistic children over the financing of intensive behavioural intervention. The Information and Privacy Commissioner ordered the government to disclose the information; instead the government filed an application with the courts to overturn the Commissioner’s decision. Addario, who is representing Martel in the court proceedings, questioned the operation of Ontario’s freedom of information legislation, noting that, if it can be used by the government to block the release of information that should be made public, it would be “a stonewalling bureaucrat’s dream.”
