Police can be sued for sloppy investigations, Supreme Court rules

SGM’s Louis Sokolov was quoted by the Globe and Mail in its coverage of the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in Hill v. Hamilton-Wentworth Regional Police Services Board. “This is a very good day for police accountability in Canada”, Sokolov said. “The Supreme Court stated in resounding language that police are no different from the rest of us, and can be sued if they do their jobs negligently.”
