Collective bargaining is a right, top court rules
In covering the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in Health Services & Support Facilities Subsector Bargaining Assn v. British Columbia, the Globe and Mail quoted SGM’s Steven Barrett, who represented the Canadian Labour Congress in the case. “We have seen 20 years of governments running roughshod over collective bargaining rights ... The court has recognized that without constitutional protection, governments are simply going to disrespect collective agreements.”
