Employers urged to heed CIBC suit

SGM’s Louis Sokolov was quoted in the Globe and Mail’s coverage of the unpaid overtime class action lawsuit against the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce launched by SGM and REKO.  “Mr. Sokolov said that the purpose of the [federal labour code] is to prevent employers from using subtle, or not so subtle, pressure on their employees to volunteer their time in hopes of advancement ... or fear of reprisal. We believe that unpaid overtime is widespread in many industries in this country ... including financial services”
